The Bali Bomber who died in the ‘Paddy’s Bar’ explosion got what he wanted – martyrdom. Why are the bombers appealing for clemency? Weren’t they Jihadists after all? Who did set off the ‘Van bomb’ with such military precision that took account of the crowds approaching from both ends of the street? Is there more to discover? Or, do we even believe that Abu Bakr Bashir could mastermind lunch?
Why would we want to give the bombers such a quick death? I certainly want them to live a very long life without ever being free and I’m pretty sure I’m not alone.
It seems that John Howard is heading off a storm.
When we are faced with the reality of six more Australians dying bloody deaths in Indonesia, he can tell us that the reason his government can’t appeal for clemency and save the Bali Nine has nothing to do with the fact that it was his government that handed them over, gift wrapped, to Indonesia to begin with.
He will feel quite justified in saying that we cannot object to the Bali Nine being shot after we wanted the Bali bombers to die.
Such an insidious tactic is beneath even this government.

Great Blog DJ. This is a real eye opener. If Schapelle dies in Kerobokan and all of this comes to the surface afterwards. There will be hell to pay for Rudd,Howard and co.
It isn't suprising that they wanted Schapelle locked up for life. Becasue they are shit scared of what she would say if she was ever released. Schapelle would expose the whole corruption of Indonesia. But that is going to happen anyway. We are going to expose the corruption for her.
